Goals expected as free-scoring Betis meet a leaky but in-form Feyenoord
Real Betis welcome Feyenoord to La Cartuja on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, in the Champions League league phase, with kick-off at 21:00 CEST. Manuel Pellegrini’s side have won both of their games, 3-2 at Lille and 3-2 at home to Porto, but come into this one off a 5-2 home defeat to Barcelona. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Feyenoord have three points after losing 5-1 at Barcelona and beating Como 3-2, and they have won five games in a row. Simone Sozza takes charge.
“Tenemos las armas futbolísticas para intentar ganar en casa.” – Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini (“We have the footballing weapons to try to win at home.”)
Predicted lineups: Real Betis vs Feyenoord
Betis lose striker Cucho Hernández, who is injured and set to be out for around a month, so Troy Parrott leads the line. Junior Firpo is also out. Pellegrini made eight changes for the Barcelona game, so Isco, Antony, Natan, Marc Bartra and Marc Roca are all expected back in the starting XI. Van Bronckhorst said everyone in his travelling squad is fit and that his line-up will hold few surprises, although Jordan Bos, Reiss Nelson, Bart Nieuwkoop, Gijs Smal and Shaqueel van Persie remain sidelined.
Real Betis Team News & Preview
The Barcelona defeat was chaotic. Betis were only 3-2 down when Facundo Bernal was sent off after 54 minutes, and Barça pulled away with two more goals. Pellegrini felt his side played well while it was eleven against eleven, but admitted they made mistakes for several of the goals. Bernal’s red card was in LaLiga, so he is available tonight.
Betis games have been full of goals. Their last three matches finished 5-2, 3-2 and 2-5, and both of their Champions League games ended 3-2. Pellegrini also has fatigue to manage, with eight games in less than 30 days after the international break, and both managers complained about the poor state of the La Cartuja pitch.
What works for or against Real Betis
- Six points and six goals from two Champions League games.
- Isco, Antony and several regulars return after being rested against Barcelona.
- Cucho Hernández is out injured.
- Five goals conceded at home to Barcelona on Saturday.
Feyenoord Team News & Preview
Feyenoord are scoring freely. They beat PEC Zwolle 7-0, FC Utrecht 5-0, AZ 2-0, Como 3-2 and then Telstar 4-3 on Saturday, a game in which they scored inside the first 30 seconds and still had to hang on. They lead the Eredivisie by four points. Van Bronckhorst wants his team to show courage and play their own game in Seville.
Defensively, they are far less convincing. Feyenoord conceded five at Barcelona, two against Como and three at Telstar, and in the Champions League they have averaged only 38% possession while allowing 3.4 expected goals in two games. That mix of attacking confidence and defensive weakness is what drives my bet.
What works for or against Feyenoord
- Five straight wins with 21 goals scored.
- Four points clear at the top of the Eredivisie.
- Seven goals conceded in two Champions League games.
- Only 38% possession on average in this competition.

Real Betis vs. Feyenoord Form Guide
Real Betis Form, Stats & Data
Betis have been clinical in Europe, scoring six goals from 3.5 expected goals, and they have controlled the ball with 56% possession. They have conceded twice in both games despite allowing only 0.90 xG per match, which suggests they have been punished for individual errors more than they have been opened up.
Feyenoord Form, Stats & Data
Feyenoord’s Champions League numbers are poor on paper: 0.55 xG per game and 1.70 against. But they have still scored four goals, and their domestic form shows they can finish chances. The bigger worry for them is a defence that has conceded 3.5 goals per game in this competition.
Real Betis vs Feyenoord: Prediction & Betting Tip
I expect a high-scoring game. All four Champions League matches involving these sides have produced at least five goals, Betis‘ last three games have averaged more than six, and Feyenoord have scored 21 goals in their five-match winning run, conceding five in the last two of those games. Betis‘ attack gets Isco and Antony back, and Feyenoord have shown in both European games and at Telstar that they leave space at the back.
The biggest risk is the conditions and the absences. Both managers called the pitch below Champions League standard, Betis are without Cucho and have a heavy schedule, and Feyenoord’s underlying attacking numbers in Europe are weak. A cagey 2-1 is entirely possible. That is why I am keeping the stake small, but the goal trends on both sides are too strong to ignore.
Over 3.5 Goals at 1.95 with Winz is the bet. Correct score: 3-2.
