Reedijk’s Hibs bow meets Dundee United’s home struggles
Marink Reedijk takes charge of Hibernian for the first time when they visit Tannadice on Saturday, 10 October 2026. The 34-year-old Dutchman, who won the Belgian second tier with Beveren, replaced David Gray, who was sacked after a 1-0 home defeat by Kilmarnock in September. Jim Goodwin’s Dundee United won 3-0 at St Mirren before the break but are still waiting for a first home league win of the season. Kick-off is at 3pm, with Don Robertson the referee.
„Our away form has been good. Our home form hasn’t been as good.“ – Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin
Predicted lineups: Dundee United vs Hibs
Goodwin could name an unchanged side from the win in Paisley, with Mehdi Merghem and Emmanuel Agyei the only absentees. Hibs have more problems: Jordan Obita, Rocky Bushiri, Kanayochukwu Megwa and Marko Ivezić are all expected to miss out. Reedijk used the international break for a training camp in La Manga, and new signing Rabbi Matondo has joined, although it is not yet clear whether he will be involved. The predicted Hibs side below is based on their recent back-three shape; how far Reedijk changes it in his first game is one of the unknowns.
Dundee United Team News & Preview
Goodwin’s side have been far better on the road than at home. They won 4-0 at Kilmarnock and 3-0 at St Mirren, but at Tannadice they lost 2-0 to Dundee and drew 1-1 with both Falkirk and Rangers. Goodwin said it is up to his players to reproduce the St Mirren performance at home, and he has planned for several different scenarios given the uncertainty around a new opposing manager.
The underlying numbers are solid. United’s 11.2 xG is the fifth-highest in the league, they average 5.0 shots on target per game and they carry a real threat from set pieces. Jesse Randall has two goals and two assists in the league. Defensively they have conceded 11 times, and their home games have not been the low-scoring affairs their away clean sheets might suggest.
What works for or against Dundee United
- United won 3-0 at St Mirren in their last game and 4-0 at Kilmarnock before that.
- They have not won any of their three home league games.
- Their 11.2 xG is the fifth-highest in the Premiership.
- They have conceded 11 goals in seven league games.
Hibs Team News & Preview
Hibs‘ form has been the mirror image of United’s. Both of their league wins have come away from home, 2-1 at Dundee and 2-1 at Rangers, and all three away games have produced goals at both ends, including a 2-1 defeat at St Johnstone. At Easter Road they are without a win in four, the last two results being a 1-0 defeat by Kilmarnock that cost Gray his job and a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen under interim management.
Hibs have created plenty. Their 11.9 xG is the fourth-highest in the league and they rank near the top for touches in the opposition box. The defensive record of 11 conceded is the issue, and the injuries to Obita, Bushiri and Ivezić hit that area directly. Defender Jack Iredale described Reedijk as „super honest, very concise in what he wants to do“, but a new manager with a depleted back line is not an obvious recipe for a clean sheet.
What works for or against Hibs
- Hibs have won two of their three away league games and scored in all three.
- Obita, Bushiri, Megwa and Ivezić are all expected to be missing.
- Marink Reedijk takes charge for the first time after a training camp in La Manga.
- Their 11.9 xG is the fourth-highest in the Premiership.

FC Dundee Utd vs. Hibernian Form Guide
FC Dundee Utd Form, Stats & Data
United’s figures describe a balanced, attacking side: 1.29 goals and 5.0 shots on target per game, with 50.2 per cent possession. The problem is consistency between venues. Their two clean sheets both came away from home, while the three Tannadice games have produced a 2-0 defeat and two 1-1 draws, so the home form does not point to them shutting out a Hibs side that has scored in every away game.
Hibernian Form, Stats & Data
Hibs have scored fewer than their 11.9 xG suggests, which points to finishing rather than chance creation as the issue. Their 1.57 goals conceded per game matches United’s exactly, and with four defenders or defensive options out, I do not expect that to improve immediately under a new manager working with a reshaped squad.
Dundee United vs Hibs: Prediction & Betting Tip
The result is hard to call. United are the better side on current form and Hibs have a new manager, but United have not won at home and Hibs have won two of three away. Where the evidence lines up is goals at both ends. Every Hibs away game has had both teams scoring, two of United’s three home games have too, both sides have conceded 11, and their xG totals are almost identical.
The strongest argument against the bet is the new-manager factor. Reedijk’s first priority could be organisation, and United kept clean sheets in their last two away games. But those clean sheets came on the road, Hibs are missing several defenders, and United have struggled to control games at Tannadice. I expect both sides to score.
I will be backing Both Teams to Score – Yes at 1.48 with Winz. If I had to name a score, it would be 1-1.
