Breitenreiter’s home debut against out-of-form Meppen
SV Meppen are Hansa Rostock’s visitors at the Ostseestadion on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, in the midweek ninth round of the 3. Liga. It is André Breitenreiter’s first home game since he took over in September, and his side arrive fourth on 15 points after a 2-0 win at Würzburg. Meppen are 19th with seven points and have not won in five league games. Kick-off is at 19:00, with Martin Wilke the referee.
“Es ist überhaupt noch nichts erreicht. Das war jetzt ein Sieg, der schön war, aber es geht weiter.” – André Breitenreiter
Predicted lineups: Rostock vs Meppen
Breitenreiter says his squad is fit apart from the long-term injured, while keeping his options open for the second game in four days. The side that won at Würzburg is the natural starting point, with Bohnert, who was rested after four international matches, an option to come back in. Meppen are without Niclas Nadj, who picked up his fifth yellow card in the 1-1 draw with Stuttgart II. Lucas Beniermann is likely to keep most of the rest of that side, with Bähr, who replaced Nadj late on Saturday, the obvious candidate to step in.
Hansa Rostock Team News & Preview
Breitenreiter’s first league game could hardly have gone better. Rostock were goalless at half-time in Würzburg and Voglsammer hit the bar, but they dominated the match: 21 shots to 10, eight on target to four, and 37 touches in the opposition box to 11. Schuster finally broke through on 76 minutes and Fatkić added a stoppage-time penalty, giving Rostock their first clean sheet of the season. The new manager’s message afterwards was that nothing has been achieved yet, and that Rostock need the same intensity without the ball against Meppen.
The home record is the one weakness in Rostock’s season. They are unbeaten at the Ostseestadion but have drawn 3-3 with Mannheim and 1-1 with Wiesbaden, with the 3-2 win over Stuttgart II their only home victory so far, and they have conceded in all three of those games. A crowd of around 23,500 is expected for Breitenreiter’s home debut.
What works for or against Rostock
- Had 21 shots to 10 in Saturday's 2-0 win at Würzburg.
- Fourth in the table with 15 points from eight games.
- Only one win from three home league games, and they have conceded in all three.
- Second game in four days, with a trip to Aachen on Saturday.
SV Meppen Team News & Preview
Meppen have slid down the table after a reasonable start. They have one point from their last five league games and sit 19th, with nine goals in eight matches. Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Stuttgart II at least stopped the run of defeats: Malanga put the visitors ahead before Schmitt’s excellent finish levelled, and Meppen had several good chances after the break.
Away from home the picture is mixed. Meppen won 3-0 at Aachen but lost 3-0 at Duisburg, 2-1 at Verl and 1-0 at Hoffenheim II, so they have failed to score in two of their four away games. Breitenreiter described them as the most vertical side in the league, which is a fair warning for a Rostock defence that has been open at home, but losing Nadj from the middle of the pitch makes it harder for Meppen to compete for second balls.
What works for or against Meppen
- Winless in five league games, with one point from that run.
- Niclas Nadj is suspended.
- Lost three of four away league games and failed to score in two of them.
- Won 3-0 at Aachen, so they can hurt sides on the counter.

Rostock vs. Meppen Form Guide
Rostock Form, Stats & Data
Rostock score 2.13 goals per game but concede 1.88, which explains why so many of their games have been open. The clean sheet in Würzburg was the first of the season, so I would not read too much into one game defensively. What matters more is that the attack is spread around: Voglsammer and Fatkić have three goals each and Dajaku has three assists, so Rostock do not depend on one player to create chances.
Meppen Form, Stats & Data
Meppen average 1.13 goals and concede two per game, and their top scorers have only two league goals each. That is a thin attacking return for a side that likes to play quickly forward, and it explains why they have struggled to turn chances into results during the winless run.
Rostock vs Meppen: Prediction & Betting Tip
The performance at Würzburg is the key piece of evidence for me. Rostock created far more than their opponents in Breitenreiter’s first game, and they now face a Meppen side with one point from five games, a weak away record and a key midfielder suspended. With a big home crowd behind them for the new manager’s first game at the Ostseestadion, I expect Rostock to take the initiative from the start.
The biggest risk is Rostock’s own home form: one win from three and goals conceded in every game. Meppen play directly and won 3-0 at Aachen, so they are capable of punishing a loose moment. That is why I prefer the straight home win to anything involving a Rostock clean sheet, and I would also not be surprised to see Meppen score.
Hansa Rostock to win at 1.60 with Winz is the bet. Correct score: 2-1.
