York’s home fortress against an Accrington side still waiting for an away win
On Tuesday, 20 October 2026, York City take on Accrington Stanley at the LNER Community Stadium, with a 7.45pm UK kick-off on League Two matchday 12. Scott Lindsey’s side are fourth on 16 points and have dropped only two points at home all season. John Doolan’s Accrington are tenth, unbeaten in six in all competitions after a 3-1 win over Gillingham, but they have not won a league game away from home since February. Declan Brown will referee.
“We’re good at home… The crowd are good.” – York manager Scott Lindsey
Predicted lineups: York vs Accrington
York’s main absentee is Jovan Malcolm, who was sent off for violent conduct at Newport. WhoScored lists him as banned, while the Yorkshire Post reports that the club has appealed, so I have left him out. Alex Newby, the top scorer, is expected to come in. Josh Stones has been ruled out by Lindsey, and Hiram Boateng and Morgan Williams were still short of fitness last week. Accrington are without top scorer Charlie Caton, Isaac Sinclair, Freddie Sass, Farrend Rawson and Shaun Whalley according to WhoScored, with Séamus Conneely and Alex Henderson doubts. Tom Moore is back from injury.
York City Team News & Preview
York showed plenty of spirit on Saturday. Malcolm’s red card left them with ten men for more than an hour at Newport, and they still came away with a 1-1 draw. It was a third away draw of the season, but York are still waiting for their first win on the road.
At home it is a different story. York have won four and drawn one of their five league games at the LNER Community Stadium, scoring 13 and conceding four: 3-2 against Bristol Rovers, 2-1 against Exeter, 4-0 against Swindon, 3-0 against Gillingham and 1-1 against Northampton. No side in League Two has scored more at home, and Lindsey’s side dominate the ball with 63% average possession. Newby has six league goals and wing-back Harry Boyes is their best-rated player on FotMob (7.74).
What works for or against York City
- 13 points from five home league games, with 13 goals scored.
- Two home wins by three or more goals: 4-0 against Swindon and 3-0 against Gillingham.
- Jovan Malcolm is expected to miss out after his red card.
- Still without an away win, and drew their last home game 1-1 with Northampton.
Accrington Stanley Team News & Preview
Accrington beat Gillingham 3-1 on Saturday with a performance built on set pieces. Stefan Mols scored after 11 minutes and then delivered the corners for both of Josh Woods‘ headed goals. Doolan’s side are unbeaten in six in all competitions, and Lindsey himself flagged how aggressive they are in the press.
Away from home, however, they have taken two points from five games: defeats at Exeter (0-2), Walsall (2-3) and Barnet (1-2), and draws at Swindon (1-1) and Oldham (0-0). They have scored four and conceded eight on the road, and Caton’s absence removes their leading scorer with five goals.
What works for or against Accrington Stanley
- Unbeaten in six games in all competitions.
- Dangerous from corners: two Josh Woods headers against Gillingham.
- No away league win this season: D2 L3.
- Top scorer Charlie Caton is listed as out.

York City vs. Accrington Stanley Form Guide
York City Form, Stats & Data
York’s numbers back up their position. They create 1.91 xG per game and allow 1.10, a strong balance for League Two, and their actual goals are close to those figures. The 63% possession average shows how much they control matches, and at home that control has turned into goals far more often than away.
Accrington Stanley Form, Stats & Data
Accrington’s attacking numbers are respectable, with 1.64 xG and 4.6 shots on target per game, and set pieces add another threat. The issue is at the back, where 1.35 xG against per game leaves them open, and that has been more obvious on the road. Without Caton, they will rely heavily on Woods and the delivery of Mols.
York vs Accrington: Prediction & Betting Tip
I am backing York. Their home form is among the best in League Two, with 13 goals in five games and only Northampton taking points away, and they control matches with the ball. Accrington have not won away all season and are missing their top scorer. York’s 1.91 xG per game against an Accrington side that concedes 1.35 xG suggests they should create plenty.
The obvious danger is York’s own absentees. Malcolm is likely to miss out and several players are still short of fitness. Accrington are also unbeaten in six and dangerous from corners, which is exactly how an away side can nick a point. But York have kept clean sheets in two of their last three home games, and I trust their home form to carry them through.
My selection is York to win at 1.67 with Winz, with 2-1 as my correct-score call.
