A depleted Roma face De Rossi’s Genoa
Genoa travel to the Stadio Olimpico to face Roma on Saturday, 17 October 2026, in round seven of Serie A. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are third with 14 points and the joint-best defence in the league, but they arrive after a 4-3 Champions League defeat by Real Madrid on Wednesday, when they led 3-1 and conceded three goals from corners in the final eight minutes. Genoa, coached by former Roma captain Daniele De Rossi, are 17th on four points after their first win of the season, 2-1 against Fiorentina. Kick-off is at 20:45, with Rosario Abisso the referee.
“E‘ una squadra incredibilmente forte.” – Genoa coach Daniele De Rossi on Roma
Predicted lineups: Roma vs Genoa
Roma are without five regular starters. Goalkeeper Mile Svilar has a stress fracture in his toe, so Gollini starts, Bryan Cristante has a back problem and top scorer Donyell Malen is suspended after his red card at Como. Manu Koné and Paulo Dybala both came off injured against Real Madrid and are expected to miss out, so Castro could make his first Roma start up front. Genoa are without Sow, Colombo, Meichtry and Nuredini, and De Rossi said only Amorim is back, on reduced loads.
Roma Team News & Preview
Roma have been one of the toughest sides in Serie A to score against. They have conceded three league goals in six games and kept four clean sheets, including a 0-0 at Como last Sunday, when they played with ten men for more than half an hour after Malen’s red card and Gollini made several saves. They are also unbeaten in 15 home league games.
The Real Madrid game showed the risks. Roma led 3-1 through De Roon and two Malen goals, then conceded three times from corners late on. With Koné, Dybala and Cristante out, Gasperini has to rebuild his midfield and attack three days later.
What works for or against Roma
- Only three league goals conceded in six games.
- Unbeaten in 15 home league games.
- Malen, Dybala and Koné are all missing.
- Conceded four against Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Genoa Team News & Preview
Genoa ended a ten-game winless run by beating Fiorentina 2-1 last weekend, with Osmajić and Messias scoring inside the first 15 minutes. De Rossi said his side had not deserved so few points from their first games. Osmajić has three goals in five appearances.
Away from home Genoa have been poor, losing 1-0 at Lazio and 2-1 at Parma. They have had a full week to prepare, while Roma played on Wednesday, but Genoa’s last league win in Rome came in 1990.
What works for or against Genoa
- First win of the season against Fiorentina.
- A full week's rest while Roma played on Wednesday.
- No points away from home.
- Failed to score in two of six league games.

AS Roma vs. Genoa Form Guide
AS Roma Form, Stats & Data
Roma score 2.33 goals per game and concede only half a goal. Malen has six of their 14 league goals, so his suspension is a big loss, but the defensive record has held up with different line-ups, including the 0-0 at Como after Malen’s red card.
Genoa Form, Stats & Data
Genoa score 0.83 goals per game and concede 1.83. They have not scored more than twice in any league game, have failed to score in two of six and have not picked up a point away from home.
Roma vs Genoa: Prediction & Betting Tip
With Malen, Dybala and Koné out, I am wary of backing Roma’s attack, but their defence is a different matter. Roma have kept four clean sheets in six league games and conceded only three goals, and Genoa have scored just five times in six games and failed to score in two of them. I expect Genoa to draw a blank.
My main concern is Roma’s week. They conceded four against Real Madrid, three of them from corners, Svilar is out, and this is their second game in four days. Genoa also scored twice against Fiorentina and have had a full week to prepare. That is why I am keeping the stake lower, but Roma’s league record is too good to ignore.
Genoa under 0.5 team goals at 2.13 with Winz is the bet. Correct score: 1-0.
