Unbeaten leaders Gent meet struggling Danish champions
AGF travel to the Planet Group Arena to face KAA Gent on Thursday, 15 October 2026, in the opening round of the Conference League league phase. The two clubs arrive in very different shape: Gent are top of the Belgian Pro League and unbeaten, while AGF won the Danish title last season but sit tenth in the Superliga after losing several key players in the summer. Kick-off is at 18:45. The referee had not been confirmed at the time of writing.
“Verdiende overwinning, maar we hadden het sneller moeten afmaken.” – Gent manager Rik De Mil after the win at Zulte Waregem
Predicted lineups: Gent vs AGF
Gent have no new injury problems reported and are expected to stick with the core of the side that won at Zulte Waregem, where Ibrahima Cissé opened the scoring and Michel-Ange Balikwisha headed the second. AGF also have a clean bill of health and are likely to keep the 3-4-3 that beat Sønderjyske 3-0 on Monday, with Frederik Tingager back in the back three and Janni Serra up front. More than 1,000 AGF fans are expected in Ghent.
KAA Gent Team News & Preview
Gent lead the Pro League with 22 points from eight games and have the joint-best defence in the division, with four goals conceded. They are unbeaten in their last five league games, a run that includes a 1-1 draw at Genk and a 2-1 win over Standard, and they followed the international break with a 2-0 win at Zulte Waregem on Saturday.
Rik De Mil’s side are not prolific, with 15 goals in eight games, but they rarely give anything away. They also had five days to prepare for this game, while AGF played on Monday night.
What works for or against Gent
- Top of the Pro League and unbeaten in their last five league games.
- Only four goals conceded in eight league games.
- Two more days of rest than AGF.
- Only 15 goals scored in eight league games.
AGF Team News & Preview
AGF are the Danish champions, but the title defence has gone badly. After losing Beijmo, Mortensen and Dalsgaard in the summer, Jakob Poulsen’s side were bottom of the Superliga after nine rounds and are now tenth with eight points from ten games. Monday’s 3-0 win over Sønderjyske was a step forward, with Arnstad, Serra and Tingager scoring in the first 38 minutes.
That result should not hide the bigger picture. AGF have conceded 17 goals in ten league games, they lost 2-0 at Nordsjælland and drew 2-2 at Horsens in their last two league trips, and they lost 3-1 to Benfica both home and away in European qualifying.
What works for or against AGF
- Beat Sønderjyske 3-0 on Monday.
- Tenth in the Superliga with 17 goals conceded in ten games.
- Lost 2-0 at Nordsjælland and drew 2-2 at Horsens in their last two league away games.
- Only three days of rest after Monday's game.

KAA Gent vs. Aarhus Form Guide
KAA Gent Form, Stats & Data
Gent concede half a goal per league game and play with three centre-backs, which makes them very hard to break down. Cissé, Vergara and Sonko share the goals, and the wing-backs give them width in a system that has worked well all season.
Aarhus Form, Stats & Data
AGF concede 1.7 goals per league game, a big change from the side that won the title. Serra and Arnstad give them a threat going forward, but they have rarely looked comfortable against well-organised teams this season.
Gent vs AGF: Prediction & Betting Tip
Gent are top of their league, have the better defence by some distance and have had two more days to prepare. AGF’s Monday win was encouraging, but it came against the team at the bottom of the Superliga, and the overall picture is of a side that has lost its way since winning the title. I expect Gent to control this and win it.
The obvious danger is Gent’s lack of goals. With 15 in eight league games, they do not blow teams away, and a single AGF goal could leave them chasing the game. That is why I am not laying a handicap, but I am happy to back Gent to win at home.
So it is Gent to win at 1.65 with Winz for me, and I expect a 2-0 scoreline.
