Xavi Tamarit’s first game meets a tired Vancouver
Los Angeles FC welcome Vancouver Whitecaps to BMO Stadium on Saturday, 10 October 2026, with Xavi Tamarit taking charge for the first time. The 44-year-old Spaniard, an assistant since January, was named interim coach until the end of the season after Marc Dos Santos was dismissed on 28 September. LAFC are sixth in the Western Conference on 41 points, nine behind leaders Vancouver, who arrive four days after a 3-1 defeat in Chicago. Kick-off is at 7:30pm local time (04:30 CEST on Sunday), with Guido Gonzales Jr. the referee.
„We looked a little heavy and a little tired today.“ – Vancouver coach Jesper Sørensen after the 3-1 defeat in Chicago
Predicted lineups: LAFC vs Vancouver
LAFC have their international contingent back. Son Heung-min, Denis Bouanga, Mathieu Choinière and Jacob Shaffelburg all missed the 1-0 defeat at Dallas while away with their national teams, and captain Aaron Long has served his suspension. Timothy Tillman is still injured. The LAFC side below is based on their last full-strength XI at San Jose, so Tamarit could still make changes in his first game. Vancouver were without Andrés Cubas, Ralph Priso and Édier Ocampo in Chicago, and Thomas Müller only came off the bench at half-time. Kenji Cabrera and Belal Halbouni are injured, and with a trip to St. Louis next Wednesday, Sørensen may rotate again.
LAFC Team News & Preview
LAFC have won only one of their last eight league games, and the run cost Dos Santos his job. The 1-0 defeat at Dallas needs context, though. LAFC were missing six regulars on international duty, plus the suspended Long and the injured Tillman, and Armindo Sieb had a 73rd-minute equaliser ruled out by VAR. Saturday is the first time in weeks that the new man has close to a full squad, and LAFC have had almost two weeks without a game to prepare.
BMO Stadium remains a tough place to visit. LAFC have won eight of 13 home league games, conceding only 11 goals, and have kept eight clean sheets at home. Hugo Lloris has 12 clean sheets in 24 starts, tied for the league lead. Bouanga has 14 league goals and Son has 13 assists. Lloris said everybody wants to „get back on track“, while Tamarit’s message has been simple: „What we want is to improve as a team.“
What works for or against LAFC
- LAFC have kept eight clean sheets in 13 home league games.
- Son, Bouanga, Choinière and Shaffelburg are back from international duty, and Long returns from suspension.
- They have won only one of their last eight league games.
- Xavi Tamarit takes charge for the first time as interim coach.
Vancouver Team News & Preview
Vancouver are still top of the West on 50 points, with 60 league goals and Brian White on 17. Their recent form has dipped, though. They have won one of their last four, losing 2-1 at home to Austin and 3-1 in Chicago, and drawing 3-3 with DC United. In Chicago, Sørensen admitted his side were „second best“ and said the problems with the structure were „on me“. The Tuesday game was the first stop of a five-match road trip, and Saturday’s game is followed by a trip to St. Louis on 14 October.
Away from home, Vancouver are still dangerous: six wins from 12, with 25 goals scored. Müller has nine league goals, and Cubas and Ocampo should make them more solid after missing the defeat in Chicago. But a second game in five days, with players arriving from different time zones, is a different challenge to the home games that built their lead.
What works for or against Vancouver
- Vancouver lead the West and have scored 60 league goals.
- They lost 3-1 in Chicago on Tuesday and have won one of their last four.
- This is the second game of a five-match road trip, with a trip to St. Louis on Wednesday.
- Cubas, Ocampo and Priso return after missing the Chicago game.

Los Angeles FC vs. Vancouver Whitecaps Form Guide
Los Angeles FC Form, Stats & Data
LAFC’s 1.07 goals conceded per game is among the better records in the West, and at home the defence is even tighter, with 11 goals conceded in 13 games. The problem has been at the other end recently, but that was partly down to who was missing: Son and Bouanga were both absent at Dallas. With them back, LAFC have the players to hurt a Vancouver side that has conceded six goals in its last two games.
Vancouver Whitecaps Form, Stats & Data
Vancouver’s 2.22 goals per game is the best attacking record in the West, and their season record deserves respect. But their recent defending has slipped, with three goals conceded against both DC United and Chicago. Sørensen himself pointed to tiredness and poor duels in Chicago, and that is a concern on a long road trip.
LAFC vs Vancouver: Prediction & Betting Tip
Several things point towards LAFC. They have their best players back after the international break, a new interim coach and almost two weeks without a game to prepare, and a home record built on clean sheets. Vancouver, by their coach’s own admission, looked tired in Chicago and now play their second away game in five days, with St. Louis to come on Wednesday.
What worries me is LAFC’s form. One win in eight is a poor run, a first game under an interim coach is hard to predict, and Vancouver have more players in form going forward than LAFC. That is why I prefer Draw No Bet to the straight home win: a draw returns the stake, and I expect LAFC’s rested, full-strength side to edge this at home.
My main bet is LAFC Draw No Bet at 1.75 with Winz. My correct-score pick is 2-1 to LAFC.
