Must-win Canadian Classique for Toronto’s fading playoff hopes
Robin Fraser’s side are 13th in the East, four points off the final wild-card place with seven games left, after three straight defeats. Montréal, under interim coach Philippe Eullaffroy since April, are bottom of the East but beat Cincinnati 3-1 last time out. Kick-off is at 1pm local time (19:00 CEST), with Allen Chapman the referee. Toronto FC and CF Montréal meet at BMO Field on Saturday, 10 October 2026, in a Canadian Classique with plenty riding on it for the hosts.
„It feels like a must-win.“ – Toronto FC coach Robin Fraser
Predicted lineups: Toronto vs Montréal
Toronto’s side at Nashville before the break looked very different from the one that started at St. Louis a week earlier, and with the international break over I expect most of the St. Louis XI to return. Djordje Mihailović is injured until later this month, and Nelson Palacio is out for the season. Montréal are without Dani Pereira, Brayan Vera, Bode Hidalgo and Josh Nteziryayo. Pereira’s absence matters, as the midfielder had been their most accurate passer since joining from Austin in July. Eullaffroy is likely to stay with the back three that beat Cincinnati.
Toronto Team News & Preview
Toronto’s three straight defeats all came away from home: 3-0 at Orlando, 3-1 at St. Louis and 2-0 at Nashville. BMO Field tells a different story. Toronto are unbeaten in their last five home games, beating New England and Nashville and drawing 3-3 with Charlotte and 4-4 with Chicago. Across the season, both teams have scored in all 14 of their home league games, and those games have produced 57 goals.
The defence is the weak spot. Toronto have conceded 51 league goals, and only three Eastern Conference sides have conceded more. Dániel Sallói and Josh Sargent have seven goals each, and Sallói has created the most chances in the squad. Fraser said Toronto are „running out of opportunities“, so I expect them to go for the win from the start.
What works for or against Toronto
- Toronto are unbeaten in their last five home league games.
- Both teams have scored in all 14 of Toronto's home league games.
- They have lost their last three league games, all away from home.
- Toronto have conceded 51 league goals this season.
Montréal Team News & Preview
Montréal’s away form has been poor. They have lost ten of 13 away league games, conceding 36 goals, including 7-1 at Inter Miami and 5-0 at San Diego. Ten of those 13 away games have produced three or more goals. The 3-1 win over Cincinnati ended a five-game winless run, and they also knocked Vancouver out of the Canadian Championship in the semi-finals.
Prince Owusu is the danger, with 15 league goals. But Montréal have failed to score in seven of their away games, and with Pereira and Hidalgo missing, the supply line is weaker. They are also missing Vera at the back, which does not help a defence that has conceded two goals per game this season.

Toronto vs. CF Montréal Form Guide
Toronto Form, Stats & Data
Toronto score 1.44 goals per game and concede 1.89, but at home both numbers rise: 29 scored and 28 conceded in 14 games. Their home games average more than four goals, which is why I am looking at the total rather than the result. A side that needs to win and keeps leaving gaps at the back is a good fit for goals.
CF Montréal Form, Stats & Data
Montréal concede two goals per game, and away from home they have let in 36 in 13. Their own scoring away is uneven, but Owusu gives them a reliable outlet on the break, and Toronto’s open home games should give him chances.
Toronto vs Montréal: Prediction & Betting Tip
The numbers on both sides point the same way. Ten of Toronto’s 14 home games and ten of Montréal’s 13 away games have gone over 2.5 goals, both teams are among the four leakiest defences in the East, and Toronto have to chase the win. Montréal’s injuries in midfield and defence make it harder for them to keep this tight.
My main concern is the last meeting. The July derby finished 0-0, and Toronto did not have a single shot on target. Toronto also scored only once in their three defeats before the break. But all three of those games were away from home, and at BMO Field Toronto have scored in every league game this season. I expect more goals than the last meeting.
My main bet is Over 2.5 Goals at 1.50 with Winz. My correct-score pick is 2-1 to Toronto.
