A caretaker’s final test against the league’s best defence
Pre-match update (20:50 CET): Ricardo Silva is still in caretaker charge, with no new appointment announced, and he says a decision on the job could come after tonight. Famalicão are without the suspended Rodrigo Pinheiro, who was not in my expected starting XI, and neither side has reported a new injury. Arouca’s local press expects Djouahra, Barbero and the usual back four to start. The official team sheets were not out when I checked, and I will update the line-ups once they are confirmed. My bet stays Arouca Draw No Bet at 2.41 with MyStake, 3/10. The odds quoted are from 5 November; prices may have moved since.
Famalicão go into Friday’s game with Ricardo Silva still in caretaker charge after Carlos Carvalhal’s departure, and O Jogo reports that the board want the coaching question settled during the international break, which makes Arouca Silva’s last audition. His three games have swung wildly: a 4-0 win at Rio Ave, a League Cup quarter-final at Braga won on penalties despite Braga creating more than four expected goals, and a 3-0 league defeat at Braga on Sunday in which Famalicão managed 0.16 expected goals. Arouca arrive fifth, unbeaten in five games in all competitions and with three straight 1-0 league wins behind them.

Predicted lineups: Famalicão vs Arouca
The official team sheets were not out at my last check, so these are still predicted line-ups. Famalicão are without the suspended Rodrigo Pinheiro, and Arouca have reported no absences. Georgios Koutsias, Famalicão’s top scorer with five goals, should lead the line in a 4-2-3-1, with Mathias de Amorim, a doubt before the Braga game, back in midfield. Arouca’s attack runs through Naïs Djouahra, who has five assists, behind Iván Barbero.
Famalicão Team News & Preview
Strip out the big away wins and Famalicão’s attacking numbers are a worry. They have scored 14 league goals from just over nine expected goals, thanks largely to 4-0 wins at Nacional and Rio Ave, and they take fewer than ten shots a game. At home the picture is bleaker still: no win in four league games, three goals scored, and only 0.33 expected goals in both the draw with Sporting and the 4-1 defeat by Alverca.
The schedule does not help either. Famalicão played Braga twice in four days, and O Jogo reports that the squad had no time off before Friday. Add a caretaker who may not be in charge after the break, and this is a team playing with plenty of uncertainty around it.
What works for or against Famalicão
- A 4-0 win at Rio Ave in Silva's first league game in charge.
- Koutsias has scored five league goals.
- Only 0.16 expected goals in Sunday's 3-0 defeat at Braga.
- Three games in eight days, with Arouca having played once.
Arouca Team News & Preview
Vitor Severino has turned Arouca into a side that wins tight games. They have conceded seven goals in ten league matches, their six clean sheets are the most in the division, and Estrela da Amadora, Alverca and Nacional were all beaten 1-0. Naïs Djouahra is their highest-rated player on FotMob, and Barbero leads the scoring with five goals.
Not all of it has been earned. Estrela created more in their 1-0 defeat at Arouca, and the attack has scored only four goals in five away league games. But the win at Alverca was dominant, with 2.04 expected goals to 0.48, and over the season Arouca’s numbers (1.25 expected goals for, 1.27 against) are clearly better than Famalicão’s. They also arrive fresher, having played only once since 24 October.
What works for or against Arouca
- Unbeaten in five in all competitions, with three straight 1-0 league wins.
- Seven goals conceded in ten league games.
- Only one game since 24 October, while Famalicão have played three.
- Only four goals in five away league games.

Famalicao vs. Arouca Form Guide
Famalicao Form, Stats & Data
Famalicão score 1.40 goals per game from 0.93 expected. Finishing like that rarely lasts, and without it this is a side creating less than a goal a game while allowing almost one and a half.
Arouca Form, Stats & Data
Arouca concede 0.70 goals per game from 1.27 expected, so the defence has been sharper than the chances it allows. Even with some levelling out, they remain the more balanced side, and they have lost only twice in ten league games.
Famalicão vs Arouca: Prediction & Betting Tip
Arouca’s run leans on narrow margins. Three 1-0 wins in a row need a goalkeeper in form and a bit of luck, and a home side whose coach is auditioning for the job could easily find the extra edge to break them down. Famalicão have also scored four twice on their travels, so they are not toothless.
I still think the visitors are the better team. Famalicão have not won at home, create very little and come in after a heavy week, while Arouca are rested and hard to score against. I am backing Arouca Draw No Bet at 2.41 with MyStake, so a draw returns my stake. The stake is 3/10, and I am expecting a tight 1-0 to the visitors.
